J'Ouvert - (pronounced Jouvay) a celebration at the beginning of Carnival May, participants cover their bodies with mud, pitch oil (black), dress as blue or red devils to dance the streets as an expression of liberation from the constraints of the past and in celebration of the ancestors who have gone before them.
Kintsugi - the Japanese art of putting back together, with gold, pottery that was once was broken thereby making it more valuable than before. It symbolizes the value that the aftermath of struggles can bring to the individual.
